HOW TO CLEAN MIX

  HOW TO CLEAN MIX

why muddy? OVERLAPPING

from kick and 808? NO, its fine on their own

samples - good to be good quality

coming from 1 main area - 808 and melody OVERLAP

abt 200hz

how to add to a mixer track?

select multiple(the green rect beside name)

Ctrl L

how to make not muddy?

make sure they dont overlap - UNLESS you're layering

layering = playing the exact same notes

how to decide what to put where?

sometimes two instruments, one is brighter, higher freq

its fine if theyre the EXACT same chords

its NOT fine if it's like a bass - but not the BIGGEST culprit

WHO ARE THE MAIN CULPRITS aka the ones that need EQ-ing?

counter melodies, leads, arps

how to fix if theyre clashing? easy way:

pitch them 1 octave higher

now track seems like it has more SPACE

how to reduce mudding and add SPACE:

reduce the volume aka LEVELLING

actual trick to EQ:

cut out low freq in melody

bring 1 circle down, adjust the shape at the top to look like a shelf

for instruments which dont have tt much low freq, cut even MORE out

eq all melody(no percussion):

select all tracks in mixer

ctrl and drag

find empty > rmb > route to this track only

move it nearer to the rest

add EQ

drag btm knob for all cept ends all the way to 0

at the top, click on dot, drag it all the way down

now when you drag them up, theyre skinny

now we EQ OUT THE RESONATING FREQUENCIES

HOW? drag one of them up, it will sound very ringing when you hear it, very tin-ny

instead of up, drag it down slightly(-1.5 to 7dB)(top left of screen should show you)

most efficient - left to right, one after another

now do the ends

if youve used up all, load up EQ on another slot the right

can make preset with all knobs down

last resort: side chain kick and melody

what dat mean: melody vol go down when the kick hits

how:

select kick, go to whole melody, click the btm arrow so it turns into a knob (so its linked), turn dial to make level 0

click whole melody(dial should disappear)

add a limiter

go to compressor tab

rmb > kick

knee and ratio all the way up

sustain and release quite low(but not 0)

threshold - lvl at which kick will bring vols down

up to you

about half, at top of melody waveline

when you turn the dial, you can see a blue line hit the waveline
